Bali has been described by many people as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. This incredible island is also a world famous scuba diving destination with several world class dive sites, because it is situated in the middle of the world’s richest marine bio-geographical area. Candidasa is one of the many places for diving in Bali which has amazing underwater phenomenon. Candidasa is located on the North side of the Amuk Bay and just a few kilometers more South to Padang Bai. The best dive sites around Candidasa are the four small rocky islands of Gili Tepekong, Gili Biaha, Gili Mimpang and Gili Selang. These islands are famous for the Sharks including many species such as Whitetip and Blacktip reef Shark, the rare wobbegong Shark, the very rare Cat Shark and even the Hammerhead Shark. The corals around the area are so superb and very healthy. However, diving in Candidasa is for experienced divers only, as it is located in the Lombok Strait and the current can be fierce and unpredictable with up and down water movements.

Candidasa is easily accessible via the main road of the island directly from the South of Bali. It takes about 2 hours to drive there by car from the Ngurah Rai International Airport of Denpasar or South Bali depending on the traffic. Candidasa is 80 minutes from Sanur along the recently opened east coast road, and is also easily reached from Ubud. The best way to go there is by renting a car or minivan with a hired personal driver. You can also reach Candidasa by local transportation such as bus, but it will take some time. Candidasa is well served by the national Perama bus company that can get you to Candidasa from Kuta, Sanur, Ubud, Padang Bai and Lovina. You can also get there by bemos from Batubulan terminal in Denpasar.

Candidasa is a renowned diving area with good sites close offshore including of Gili Tepekong, Gili Biaha, Gili Mimpang and Gili Selang. The Plateau in Gili Tepekong is a very beautiful Bali dive site with beautiful coral and a nice cave where baby sharks like to stay. Drift along over the coral and then finish your dive on the amazing deep wall here. In The Canyon of Gili Tepekong, you will have good chances of spotting whitetip reef sharks and large pelagic fishes, even the world famous Mola-mola. However, this diving spot is for advanced divers only. Gili Biaha has two very good dive sites, Shark Cave and Biaha Slope, which can be combined in one dive if the current is good. You can see whitetip reef shark resting in the cave. Gili Mimpang dive site is a series of 3 big rocks followed by another 6 smaller rocks. It is a very good place to see whitetip reef sharks, the rare wobbegong sharks, the very rare coral cat sharks as well as the world famous Mola-mola. Gili Selang is a diving site, which has untouched reefs with very beautiful corals. This is an ideal place for underwater macro photography.

Candidasa is often called the best diving in Bali because the visibility is often excellent and the corals are very healthy. There are four main sites for diving in Candidasa, which are Gili Tepekong, Gili Biaha, Gili Mimpang and Gili Selang. You can find many species of sharks and other rare marine lives around these islands. Diving in Candidasa would be an amazing experience for your holiday in Bali.
