Moyo Island

April 4, 2014 |

Though relatively small, this quiet island with remarkable natural richness, managed to attract some “major” person like Lady Diana and Mick Jagger for a vacation. You’ll definitely want your honeymoon in this romantic place after the busy preparation of your wedding day. Moyo Island, a small island located on the north island of Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara Province, is one of the world-class tourist destinations which are often used by overseas celebrities to get a quiet vacation. Seeing the beauty of the beach, sea and unspoiled nature, it offers peace for lovers of nature and beauty of the sea.

No wonder if there are so many domestic and international tourists who come to this exotic and quiet island. Moyo Island has a height variation from 0-648 m above sea level. Hundreds of butterflies will be seen from behind the bushes, trees or in the middle of the savanna. The island is also inhabited by 21 species of bats, birds, macaque, wild pigs, deer and snakes. However, since the natural conditions are still very -well- natural, you are advised not to enter this 30,000 hectares island without a guide to avoid being lost.

Waterfall Tours and Various Rare Birds
While visiting the island, we can see the beauty of unspoiled nature. Beautiful forests and almost untouched, natural waterfalls and rivers, and the underwater beauty of the endless sea. In addition to all of them, there are also some caves that can be reached on foot, as an alternative activity. One of them is the cave of Ai Manis which had to be achieved with a little rock climbing. This cave is the breeding place of hundreds of bats. Other activities you can do is trekking for two hours that can be started from Labuan Haji, to the waterfalls Brang Rea (Great River) in the middle of the island. Not to mention, the laddered Waterfalls ‘Mata Jitu’ in the bird park of Moyo Island is also a remarkable tourist attraction. Along the road to the waterfall, you can find various kinds of birds and one of them is Megapodius.

Moyo Island is also a paradise for bird lovers. From 124 species of birds found in Sumbawa, 86 species of which are located on this island. Rare bird species can also be found here. Among these are the Yellow-headed Cockatoo and Gosong bird. This Gosong bird is truly unique because it relies on plants and twigs to produce heat during the egg incubation period.

Enjoying the underwater scenery
One attraction for tourists to visit in this area is underwater natural beauty. Various types of coral reefs and diverse ornamental fish can be enjoyed while snorkeling or diving. The island is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs. You can also see the two-meters length sharks, anemones, pelagic, eels, groupers and even manta, all there. Nobody won’t saw them all without amazement. It’s just gorgeous! You can also dive around Medang Island, in Northwest of Moyo Island. Underwater scenery in this place is no less beautiful. Honeymooners can contact the Blue Lagoon Resort located on the outskirts of Sumbawa Besar. Cruises from Bali, Lombok or even abroad often make a stopover in the island. Travel cruises usually stop in Moyo Island and Satonda Island, a tiny island in the northeast of Moyo which has salt water lake in the middle of the island.

Easier Transportation
Overnight in Moyo Island is not a difficult case. The only resort in Moyo Island is managed by a third party who manage the island of Moyo. The resort is using a tent that amounted to 20 pieces. But don’t worry, although only made of tents, all the resort luxuries are here!. You certainly can enjoy the convenience and peace of the night in this Amanwana Resort with your spouse. You can also enjoy the resort facilities such as the Internet, 24 hours doctor, the library, breakfast and much more. Don’t miss the package jungle trekking, diving, and snorkeling. Unfortunately, since Moyo island is far from the reach of domestic tourists, promotion of the island is still very little. That’s also why you have to make sure you have suffice time and fund if you want to spend your honeymoon here.
